The Department of Safety has partnered up with the Denver Broncos Wives Food Drive, King Soopers and Channel 4 in an attempt to help replenish the diminished food supply at the local food bank.

Starting Thursday, September 30, 2004 through Friday October 15, 2004 all police districts and fire stations will be collecting non-perishable food items which will be delivered to the COMPA food bank located at 4120 Brighton Blvd. COMPA stands for compassion.  COMPA was established by six inner-city churches in 1981 and provides the necessary assistance to 8,000 families each week and food to over 140 churches, food pantries and neighborhood organizations. COMPA's mission is to feed the hungry while offering dignity and self-sufficiency to the poor. It has come to our attention that the food banks are bare due to the recent complications with the food stamp assistance program.

There will be a press conference at the Fire Station located at Colfax and Speer tomorrow, September 29, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with Chief Whitman, Chief Trujillo and representatives from the Denver Broncos.   On Saturday October 2, 2004, members from the Department of Safety will be on hand at the various Denver metro area King Soopers from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to collect any donated items.
